RE: PACIFIC RADIO GROUP’S HOLIDAY JOB FAIR
“LOOKING FOR SOMETHING BETTER?”
More than 50 businesses will be searching for qualified employees at
Pacific Radio Group’s Holiday Job Fair on Saturday, October 15, from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Queen Kaahumanu Center.
Employers seeking applicants range from smaller retailers like
Checker Auto Parts and ABC Stores to larger employers like the
County of Maui. Also on hand will be representatives from island
banks, hotels and airlines.
A repeat participant this season is the Maui Police Department,
which is seeking officers and dispatchers to fill 47 vacancies. The
total number of officers the department is authorized to have on its
force is 352.
Other return participants include Altres Medical, Hawaii USA FCU,
and Safeway. Among the new participants this year are Kapalua Land
Co., Monsanto and Paradise Beverages.
Statistics from the State Labor Department indicate that Maui County
continues to post unemployment rates well below the national
average. The 2.6% unemployment rate for August represents the sixth
consecutive month that Hawaii’s rate has been below 3%.
Event organizer Charly Espina Takahama from Pacific Radio Group says
the positive figures mean a more selective marketplace. That means
employers are looking for better-qualified employees; and jobseekers
that may already be employed, are looking for something better.
The October job fair is the second of two that Pacific Radio Group
and the Queen Kaahumanu Center sponsor each year. The first is
designed to find summer hires; the second one is for holiday hires.
PACIFIC RADIO GROUP
RAISES $60,000 FOR KATRINA RELIEF |
September 27, 2005
A combined effort from Pacific Radio Group’s 14 radio stations on
Maui and the Big Island helped to raise an impressive $60,000 for
Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts.
The campaign began with a one-day fundraising drive on the Big
Island in which on-air personalities from Pacific Radio Group
accepted donations for the Red Cross in front of Starbuck stores.
The event alone brought in a one-day total of $40,232.
On Maui, an abbreviated version of the fundraising event on
September 12th resulted in more than $10,000 in donations in just
four hours. During the Maui drive, Haleakala Waldorf School dropped
off nearly $2,000 in checks; and a bidding challenge between two
companies at the Starbucks location at the Queen Kaahumanu Center,
resulted in a combined total contribution of $3,025 from J.S.
Construction and Excavation and A&A Trucking.
Additional funds were also raised through on-air auctions and
walk-in donations at our Kahului offices.
100% of the funds raised are being used by the American Red Cross to
help victims of Hurricane Katrina by providing immediate food and
shelter. As immediate needs are fulfilled, additional funds will go
towards long-term recovery efforts.
These kind donations on Maui and the Big Island are a true
reflection of the giving spirit alive and well in our islands. In
working together, we were able to extend our gifts in the spirit of
aloha on behalf of all of Hawaii.
